If we get a kitten and then go our to work we are worried about leaving it with a free run of the house incase it hurts itself.

We thought about using a cat crate as dogs find being in these relaxing. Has anyone used them? Do cats find them ok?

I used a small dog kennel for Olly when he was a kitten to let my other cats have time away from the little monster. It worked for a short time. Soon Olly started to freak out. So, I would say cats don't do good in them. When we travel Olly won't go in the kennel or crate. He freaks out sooo much he ends up hurting himself, so I have to hold him. He HATES small spaces. I would maybe try putting him in your bathroom, or a small room when you are away.

Thanks for your response. Our house has an open plan kitchen and living area with spiral staircase going up from there so we cannot shut a kitten in there. We thought whilst it was a kitten the run of the house would be to much and thats why we had considered a crate? We are planning on getting a puppy to go with the kitten so they will have each other for company but the puppy will be in a crate whilst it is being trained and allowed more freedom when its a bit older. So we thought we would do this with the kitten as well?

I also posted this in tips and advice section and someone said that they did crate hers and it was fine. However some of you seem to have allowed free run and its been fine. Its hard to know what to do?

We want a bengal but we are worried and are not sure if we should get a different breed of cat that is less active?

we're not terribly houseproud, we know what we're in for (mischief) and that's the reason we want a bengal, we're more worried about our little bengal hurting herself. she'll have puppy to keep her company and play with... just a bit concerned about her maybe chewing through wires or finding where we store bleech or something, just want her to be safe,

it's great that you're being such a concerned mummy. i think it may be better if you can seperate her in a room, maybe a bathroom or bedroom. mainly because they do love to run, climb & chase toys around. i think the crate may just be too much confinement for a bouncy lively bengal.

of course, you could find that she just curled up & slept the whole time, which would be fine, but you would feel terrible if she'd been wanting to play & got stressed because she had no room to do so.

A bedroom would be nice.

When Onyx came home we shut him in the kitchen (he was too small to jump on the cooking thingy) for the first 3 days when we weren't there but afterward when we saw he was ok we let him in the appartment (now we shut them out of the bedroom because they'll open closets and sleep on our clean cloths which finish full of cat hair... and claw the walls... they like the texture I guess )

Apart from pushing a few things off shelves they never did too much mischief or hurt themselves .
