Hi all,

need some unusual advice... As you might know from my posts, I am currently fostering two female half-bengals for rescue. They were a bit shy at first, but came out of their shells now and checked out healthy, so I've introduced them to my two neutered boys on the weekend. Everything went fine and they get along fabulously. Maybe a little bit too well...

I'm not sure if meeting the boys triggered it or if it would have been unavoidable, but the smaller one (Katie) demonstrated quite unmistakably last evening that she's going into heat! She's all lovey-dovey, rolling around, chirping for attention and shoving her butt into my males' faces. Gone are the days of her playing scaredy-cat and hiding out of sight.

Mikesch thinks this is very interesting and even tried to mount her, which got her rrrrreally excited, so now she's following him around and rubbing all over him wherever he goes. He's not going too far though, usually sitting in the middle of their foster room now with Katie hitting on him big-time.

I'm not quite sure what (if anything) I should do. This is the first time I'm caring for female cats, so it's all new to me. Should I separate them again, or just let nature run its course? It's not like there's anything going to come out of this anyway. The girls are due to be spayed at the end of this month, and Mikesch was neutered four months ago. I'm surprised he even reacted to her advances like he did. How long does it take for a male cat before he loses interest in mating?

my instinct would be to say leave them to it, as long as neither of them are stressed by the situation, it has probably been good for katie & helped her come out of her shell. it shouldn't come to any harm as you have said they have no health issues & your boys have had their ops.

It'll no doubt help her to settle in her new home, just ensure she doesn't escape for a bit of "outside lovin" before her op.

Mikesch is probably over the moon with his new housemate....let the pair shake their stuff!
