We got a beautiful 4 months old Bengal girl on Sunday. She is very friendly with us, but everytime my other two adult cats take a look at her, she is hissing and growling so badly! I am so confused, because my other cats, when they were kittens, they were very friendly with each other straight away! What can I do? Will she be like this forever? My other two adult male cats are neutered and they couldn't hurt a fly, they are interested in her, and they want to meet her, but she is really scared and upset when she sees them. I want them to be happy together and I want my other two cats to go to the bedroom where the kitten is, but they are not allowed in there right now! I don't want to upset her! My questions are: is this behaviour normal? Is she going to come around? Will she be this hostile towards them for weeks? Why is she like this, she was brought up with many other cats around her? How can I make them friends? What can I do to make sure she will accept them? Thanks!

Its early days. Im sure they will get used to each other. The last bengal i got it took a few weeks for one of the others to get used to him. Introduce them slowly. Maybe worth putting a blanket in with the kitten that smells of them so she starts getting used to their smell.

Poor little thing, they probably look like monsters to her! My kittens were both really nervous when I brought them home, without any other cats to deal with (they were littermates). Give her a couple of days to settle in, and I second Tracey's suggestion.

It's sweet that it's the kitten who is doing the aggressive response and not the adults! She's probably a bit scared by new surroundings and strange big cats. It's good that she's friendly towards you though as it shows she trusts you. Give them all lots of attention and reassurance and I'm sure they'll settle in time.

I've got 3 Bengal kittens, all from the same litter but two of them had been homed somewhere else for two weeks before I got them. When they were reintroduced to their sister, they hissed and spat at each other for about a week before settling down. If litter mates can be like that, then it may take a little while for your kitten to become comfortable with the other two cats.

Cats usually need a little time of adaptation especially when they are of a different age .

You should keep your new girl in a separate room for a week or 2 and exchange sleeping things for the smell.

If she seems curious of the other cats under the door you can try putting her with them.

My cats were both 4 months old when I put them together : the first day the newcomer (smaller) didn't like the other one jumping on him (he only wanted to play ) and hissed and growled, but 3 days later he began playing too, the noises he made when playing subsided (I guess Onyx wasn't controling his bites and hurt him at first too), and a week later they were sleeping together .

They're now best pals .
