And now for a typical work day...
5:00-6:00 am : Mikesch transforms into a poltergeist on a house-wide rampage, climbing blinds, knocking things to the floor, and banging doors
6:00 am : alarm clock rings - both cats come running to jump on my bed for their "meow, meow, feed us now!" morning chorus and nibble on hands and feet if I don't get up fast enough
6:30 am : breakfast time, grooming, then nap time on my (preferably unmade) bed for Binky and shower-peepshow entertainment for Mikesch
7:30 am : Binky finds himself waking in a headlock and having his medicine forced down his throat before he wakes up completely (success rate about 50%); Mikesch demands to be played with, too
8:00 am : leaving the house and two sleeping cats to head to work
6:00 pm : back home again and greeted by two seemingly starving cats meowing up a storm at me - there's still dried up leftovers in the bowl though; the next half hour is spent cleaning food dishes, litter boxes and playing with the beasties or with two meowing cats following my every move around the house
6:30 pm : dinner time - cats sniff-lick the food and decide they don't like it after all and eat kibbles instead, followed by grooming and nap time on the recliner in front of the TV
7:30 pm : Binky finds himself waking in a headlock again for his second take of medicine for the day; Mikesch wants to go outside or be let into the garage to hunt insects while Binky keeps meowing on the recliner until I sit down to pet and groom him into a stage of purring and kneading ecstasy followed by deep sleep
10:00 pm : Mikesch tears through the house like a stampeding herd of buffaloes, cats end up wrestling under my desk, Binky escapes to my bed and proceeds to meow to tell me it's bedtime, Mikesch hangs out on the window sill above my desk (literally hanging upside down onto the open window sash) or sitting on my computer, batting at writing utensils and shredding paper
11:00 pm : "Meow, meow, emergency, extremely urgent: we're out of kibbles! Oh no, disaster! Need food to avert apocalypse, NOW!" - early midnight treat and bedtime; the cats might settle down in the basement or on my bed
If I come home at an unusual time, say for lunch break or around 3 PM in the afternoon, there's no sign of either cat. But if I don't get home in time for dinner, boy I'm in trouble.
