We are having a problem with Indiana his just over 5 months old and booked in for Friday to be castrated. He has taken to urinating outside of his litter box and has been doing so now for the last month. He has a few set places: inside Cat Tunnel, on top of Litter Box, by the front door, by the bathroom door and the newest place is on the base of the cat tree.

We've tried using Citrus scented products to put him off, washed it clean so no smell was there, put his toys on it and still we have the same problem.

We have another Bengal who is his brother same age etc and we have no problems with him and he isn't bullying Indiana when he uses the Cat Litter Box. We have two litter trays that are cleaned twice daily and emptied on Wednesday and Sunday.

We are at the end of our tether and don't know what to try to stop him, we don't tell him off when he does it, should we be?

We mentioned it to the Vet and she didn't say anything.

Tiger my stud cat doesn't really spray he just leaves large puddles of urine to mark his territory, perhaps your little boy is doing the same. They do say however that one litter tray per cat and one extra, perhaps you could try that if you have the room.

I hope the castration will sort the problem out.

This is totally normal for a kitten this age - every male kitten I've ever had has gone through this stage before being neutered. I think you just have to put up with it until he has his op! See if you can bring it forwards.

My problem is even bigger now despite the fact he has now been neutered and the house has been carpet cleaned he is now pooing outside of the litter box and when I say outside I mean right next to it!

Marking by the means of faeces in the place of urine is called middening.

Have you cleaned all the actual marking sites with a proper enzyme cleaner thats engineered specifically for pets, something like simple solution would be your best bet and easiest to get hold of.

Also place another open litter tray directly over the area that he always uses, even if its right next to the closed tray....this is in case its turned into more of a habit/location based thing.

See how that works for a few days!

I can't place a tray where he is doing it as its right on the base of a cat tree and it won't fit. Do you thinking moving the cat tree into another room and replacing it with a tray would work?

Was wondering how bundles of Bengals got on with the combination of Simple Solution and Feliway and do you know if Pets At Home sell it as I could pick some up this weekend.
