Thanks for this post! My wife and I are hoping that it works out between our Lancelot and his new girlfriend. He really needs a playmate and she had lost her first friend and has been lonely. It's been a week and a half and they are eating well together (about 3 feet apart). We just started doing separate play after their meals but this morning they ignored us and the toys and just wanted to get close to each other. I also let them bat a little at each other through a cracked door. Earlier there was a lot of hissing; now they are doing a lot less of that. If Lance sees Guen anywhere near his cat tree, however, he charges.. luckily we've been able to sweep him up before a fight erupts! With all the upheaval, we think it's probably best if that remains his property, at least for now :) I've got hope for the next week or so!!

Lancelot, welcome to the forum. It sounds as if you are doing the proper steps to a full introduction. Based on what you've posted, the kitties are behaving normally. Your boy is quite territorial, but I'm sure he will be willing to share shortly. Hang in there. These things take time, but the pictures of the two snuggled and sleeping together make it all worth the effort, even though it can take a few weeks. Congratulations on your baby girl.

I've had the same issue with the cat tree and my two eventually learned to timeshare - most of the time! Every now and again they want to be on it at the same time which ends up in a bun fight, but overall Jagger uses it during the day, and Hendrix at night.

Nobody likes to hear the screeching that comes with cat fighting. Spats are one thing. I think most owners want to protect their cats from getting hurt. Any time a cat cries out, it's time to put a stop to whatever is going on. Yes, there is a hierarchy among cats, and I don't have a problem with cats swiping at each other, but a rough and tumble roll with a cat attached at the neck goes way over the line for me. I know we want all of our kitties to get along, but human siblings fight -- it's just natural among cats. They are territorial and it's "you stay away from mine."
