Hi all,

This has most likely been asked before, but can anyone recommend the best water fountain to get (UK)?

My cats like water that flows 'out' rather than 'down' (think waterfall tap), and has decent flow strength. I know they will only drink from specific types of flowing water so don't want to waste money on a fountain they won't use.

Thanks.

It's really a question of what your cats like, because there are so many models to choose from. Most have the same type of pump inside so it's a question of external design.

I got the type that shoots straight up and falls into a large pool, no knowing what my critters would like. They loved it from the first time I plugged it in. Thomas even slept next to it for three days in a row!

I realized you asked for UK, but hopefully they have this brand there:

Ahh yeah I have seen that one over here, I liked that it was ceramic. Thanks!

Check with Amazon UK. Just make sure the fountain is made of ceramic or stainless steel and not plastic.

Mine is from a company called Animal Planet, and it is the dreaded plastic. But I clean it every couple of weeks with bleach and it's fine.

The issue with plastic and low-grade ceramic is that they are porous and hold the bacteria created from the pets drinking. Daily cleaning will help with the as will a filter. I use a Pioneer Raindrop stainless steel that is cleaned twice a week and the filter changed every four weeks.

I'm kind of surprised the thing is still running, it was supposed to be a cheap experiment. So when it clonks out I'll get one of the stainless models.

The funny thing with mine is that Raiden (bengal) drinks out of the bubbling fountain part. My DSH drinks out of the large reservoir part of the fountain. Crazy! But at least they use it.

Apparently the bubbling part is for drinking, and the big pool is for dipping paws and splashing each other. And then when everyone gets too wet and chilled, hop into mamee's lap for paw warming.

Oddly enough, there is no water splashed anywhere around the fountain I use. Now, Raiden will dip his paw into the other water bowls disbursed throughout the house and he even dipped into a puddle after a heavy rain so he could drink. I think he wants to make sure it is actually water and not a desert mirage. LOL
