Bella is often, though not always, near me. She spends a lot of the time near me in the kitchen, as well as on the bed. She is not a conventionally affectionate cat, the opposite of "cuddly," rather aloof - I've come to the conclusion that either her breeder failed to socialize her with lots of human love, or that it's just her nature to be somewhat distant. In addition, I have heard her purr once since she came to live with us. On the other hand my husband says that when he plays with her he's a little rough, and she apparently really enjoys that and purrs up a storm. I adopted Bella from someone who had had her for almost a year, a man. I'm wondering if she doesn't still miss him, and prefer men. As I've written here before, I also have a female rescue cat who is even more agile than Bella, and the two are now great playmates. They sometimes touch noses, though not much, and while they sleep near each other on our bed, they do not snuggle together. It's joy to watch them chase each other. They now genuinely get along - I had to habituate them to one another last June - and I feel it was an excellent decision on my part to give my Bella a friend.

Ellen, my Raiden is aloof as well. Get head butts and that is it! Does not mean Bella was not socialized. Bengal personalities are completely different from any other cat. And Raiden's purring? Unless I get my head right on him, I can't hear it. My DSH purrs so loud, I can hear him across the living room. Accepting Bella for the beautiful girl she is .... that's all you can do. You already know Bella and Jamie are like night and day.

My first bengal liked to "play rough" too... I think maybe my dad taught her that kind of play when she was little or maybe it is just her. Basically just tapping her on the butt and petting her fur backwards against the grain to give her a Mohawk and doing what would overstimulate most cats. She loved it and would ask to play like this and purr like crazy and hop around kicking her toys with her back feet like crazy. She was a bit of a adrenaline junky and would hunker down in a box and then ask you to drag it around, so we would tie a rope to it and run around the house while she played race-car driver. She also would climb up on office chairs and meow/beg for you to spin them around while she hung on.

It was unusual and would make most cats scared or over the threshold but we never had issues with her attacking us to play or anything. I certainly don't play that way with my current bengals, no way they would like it.

Every cat is unique and it may not be socialization at all. My breeders cats get all the same socialization and when I went to visit, you could tell some were lap cats, some very curious and more "I want to sniff you but don't pet me" cats, others a-loof and watching from the other room. You could see very different cats within the same litter.
