I have been contacted today by a lady who bought a kitten from me nearly a year ago. Her parents have dementia, and she is now having to spend so much time going to look after them, and then leaving the cat behind, that she has decided it is better to find him a new home.

She calls him Simba, and he is up to date with his vaccinations, wormed and microchipped. The only issue is that he has still not been neutered, however she assures me he does not spray. He is an indoor cat.

Unfortunately the lady is not willing to let him go for free, as she insists if somebody pays for him, they will look after him better(?)

I know this is usually reserved for free re-homing, but I would be so grateful if anybody knows of a good home. I would hate to see him go to the wrong home, especially taking into consideration he is still entire.

What a sad situation for him to be in. I am afraid it is quite possible this lad WILL end up in the wrong hands, simply becaause he is still entire. If it were one of mine there is no way I would want him sold on without having the 'snip' first, and my Contract wouldn't permit it.

Is it possible for you to get this boy neutered now? He could go to a new home almost immediately after as he doesn't spray. I think it would give you peace of mind as you obviously care about him and want to help. It would also ensure he NEVER ends up in the hands of a back-yard breeder!

I've sent you a PM to express my interest in this young chap. You posted this at the same time I had asked for advice in finding my next Bengal!

I agree about the problem with unscrupulous (sp!) breeders. If we were to be given the chance to rehome him, we would most certainly arrange immediate neutering. We are not interested in breeding and above all, we want a feline playmate for our current kitten. (2 kids, 2 dogs, 2 cats would balance things nicely!)

My contract also stipulates neutering, and I withhold paperwork until such notification has been received. Therefore I still have the paperwork for the boy with me.

Under the circumstances I have not been harsh on her, but as she is going to do the "sale" through me, and is not advertising him on her own, the issue of neutering will be one of the things we will settle with the new owners. She is unfortunately living quite far from me, and due to my own personal circumstances at present, I just can not take him in now, even for a short time. Not an ideal situation by any stretch of the imagination, I know, but the best I can try to do for now, in the cat's best interest.

I do understand, and it makes it more difficult if they don't live nearby. I feel sure that as you are working together, the right home will soon be found and everything will turn out ok for him.

After careful thought and consideration, we don't think we could offer this boy the perfect home, what with rowdy kids, dogs, and an energetic kitten. If we subject him to neutering as soon as he gets here, he'll be mightily upset, especially as we are open plan and wouldn't be able to give him any privacy...

Gutted.

But I sincerely hope he finds the perfect home and this story will have a happy ending.
