Hi everyone. One of my absolute favorite cat books ("A Streetcat Named Bob") was released as a movie this Fall. Unfortunately, it had real limited distribution in the US, and while it's been announced as having a blue-ray release in the UK, no such announcement has been made (at least yet) in the US. Grrr! Anyway, just wondering if anyone has seen the movie and if so, what you thought of it.

It got kind of mediocre ratings on RottenTomatoes, but quite frankly I wouldn't expect it to have much impact on non-cat lovers. Anyway, hopefully we'll get a bluray release in the US. This is killing me

Oh, I love James and Bob and have all their books! This was an incredible story. I have not seen the movie except for the trailer that was posted online. I think only cat lovers would really enjoy this movie. I am thrilled that James and Bob now have a good life -- for those of you who do not know the story, James was a recovering drug addict in London and busking on the streets for money when he met Bob -- an injured ginger kitty. That's all you get. The book is an amazing story -- it's well worth the read.

If it comes out on DVD here, I'll definitely purchase it. I don't think I have a blu-ray player, though. I would not advise purchasing it from the UK because they use a completely different set up on their DVDs and they will not play on most DVD players in the US.

The Bluray is scheduled to be published early next year.

It may be coded for the EU only, but there are ways and means around that. :-)

I'm pretty sure it will be out in the USA as well. The book was hugely popular all over the world.

I've just read the book and am now on the sequel - I've ordered the Blu-ray which over here is out end of February as a little birthday present to myself. However, I never think a film is as good as the book if you've read it first and then watch the film. Films just can't include everything that has made the book so good.

Love the fact he plays himself in the film too as I doubt there are many other cats who could cope with that!

It was so ironic when I read about the "actors" scheduled to portray Bob! None of them worked out, so Bob had to jump in a take the role! Wish James could have played himself as well. Always seems odd to see an actor portray a person you're so familiar with.

I know James posted pictures of the cats lined up to play Bob in the movie! I guess nobody could play Bob except Bob! I'm sure the movie will be available here in the US (may even be shown on TV at some point).

Won't do streaming -- but will get the DVD. I just don't want to be disappointed. I've followed James and Bob now for years -- and I don't want to get something specific in my mind and the whole thing be a let down.

*Finally* watched the movie tonight... I enjoyed it, of course I did. But it wasn't without disappointments. The movie chose to focus most of the story on James' relationship with his father, and his girlfriend (Betty), and with his social worker (Val), mostly to the exclusion of James and Bob's adventures as street musicians and big issue sellers, and those tacked on bits were pretty lame imo (especially "Betty" who is now this hippy, straight-arrow do-gooder who constantly badgers James about his drug habits only to dump him ironically when he gets clean).

Also it becomes really annoying to anyone who knows cats that they throw in this constant array of fake cat noises whenever bob is on-screen (including these peculiar dog-like growls). Sheesh.

Oh well, it's still worth watching. And unless I'm mistaken, I think I caught a glimpse of the real James Bowen making a cameo in the movie. Pretty neat. And of course Bob is an awesome cat.

Well, now I'm not so sure I even want to see the movie! The book was so heartfeltly written. It sounds as if the movie strays away from that.

I added it to my list on Amazon. I am waiting for it to go into the list of movies with no charge. I pay so much for cable and streaming services that I refuse to pay additional for movies. Eventually they wind up on one of the services I currently pay for. So I'm keeping my eye out.

I can add it to a wish list on my Tivo in case it ever shows up on one of the channels. I don't get any premium channels so I may miss it. But still would purchase the DVD if it becomes available.
