Thanks for the info Sherry, I do wonder if there was in breeding if that's why Frosty was born with these health issues he had and died so young.

The breeders I got him from 10 years ago had only just began, maybe they weren't very thorough with checking, luckily the 2 I have now don't seem to have any health issue and they are all from the same breeder.

The inbreeding of the bengal started very early with Jean Mill. Almost all cats go back to Millwood cats. Even a breeder who has an ALC will breed with a bengal who has probably has considerable inbreeding. A great breeder will check for as little inbreeding as possible, however the vast majority of breeders do not take a pedigree back all the way. Very time consuming, complicated, and many don't know how to even do it. They list the parents on their website and that is it. Pedigrees, if they are there, go back 3 to 5 generations and that is it.

I have read about how the bengal began, I bought several books before even getting one.

It's very interesting to read how she began and how the male cats were sterile to start with.

I suppose there is going to be inbreeding in all pedigrees to some extent.

Just occurred to me this morning -- even the ALC can have serious inbreeding. Yes, the EG males were sterile, although Millwood Destiny sired a few litters and he was an F3. Jean got very lucky with Millwood Mark My Spots who was a male F2 who was bred with an Ocicat and sired four offspring. I do have a few F2 males that sired offspring. Note that Millwood Destiny was bred back to his mom, Millwood Praline, several times. Then he was also mated with Millwood Rosetta Stone, Destiny's full sister!
